River Country, the first of Disney's water parks, was opened in the mid seventies. Located on the edge of Bay Lake in Fort Wilderness, River country is Disney's version of an old-fashioned swimming hole. It has all the water park standards like flume rides, water slides and a white water rapid ride. There are also nature trails and one of the only beaches in Central Florida.
River Country draws it's water supply from Bay Lake with the use of a pump and filtration system located inside an artificial mountain. It then distributed the water at about 8,500 gallons per minute. The excess water is then returned to the lake.
